The laser/led lens faces towards the rudder connector. This is so that your left/right is correct on the trackball. You can always change the up/down in your config file, but left/right is not possible in many games. Here I have used a thin film of clear silicon to glue the red base assembly to the main Panther circuit board. I had to melt down some little plastic nubs that stuck up from the circuit board. They prevented the red base unit from sitting flat on the Panther circuit board. You want to have the laser pickup lens directly over the center of the trackball hole and as close to the trackball as you can get without touching it. I used a solder iron to melt the plastic nubs flush with the circuit board. Just scrape off any excess melted plastic with your finger nail or a tool till you have a perfectly flat circuit board.
